Islamic Calendar | My Qibla
The Islamic calendar
is lunar, its months are determined by the phases of the moon. The discovery of
the new moon signifies the beginning of each month. Given that the moon is not
always visible on the first day of the month, this can provide some
difficulties. These months have either 29 or 30 days in length. The Islamic
calendar is important to Muslims as it determines the dates of religious events
and holidays. For example, Ramadan, the month of fasting, always falls on the
ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
The Islamic calendar is also used to determine the direction of
prayer, or Qibla. Muslims pray five times daily, and the Qibla is the direction
in which they face during prayer.
The Qibla is always towards Mecca, the holy city of Islam. Mecca is
located in Saudi Arabia presently. The Islamic calendar is thus a important
part of Muslim life, providing both religious and cultural guidance.
